A policeman and a clerk injured in attack

There was chaos at the Vidhana Soudha on Thursday morning when a policeman and a clerk were stung by honeybees near the West Gate.

According to the police, a swarm of bees that was disturbed from a honeycomb caused a commotion. Sub-Inspector of Police Nagaraj and clerk of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms Loknath were injured in the attack. Though the two were administered first-aid, their arms and face were swollen.

With the Chief Minister and his ministerial colleagues due to visit the Vidhana Soudha, the police personnel soon cordoned off the area and made alternative entry arrangements at the North-East Gate and South Gate. The Ministers who arrived at the West Gate were prevented from entering the Vidhana Soudha through that gate, while the police personnel were trying to “calm the disturbed bees”.

“Honeybees, at times, get disturbed when daytime temperature soars. We had a harrowing time today, as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Ministers were to arrive at the same time. By the time Mr. Siddaramaiah arrived, the situation had been brought under control,” said Manjunath, Inspector of Police, Vidhana Soudha Security.

Incidentally, there are many honeycombs in the Vidhana Soudha and two huge ones are near the West gate.
