Bangalore: Government job aspirants on Saturday urged the State government to take immediate steps to fill the 1.6 lakh posts which have been vacant in different departments since the past five years.
Addressing a press conference, Santosh S, a Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) aspirant, said different grades and posts were vacant in the various departments. “Group ‘C’ posts such as the First Division Assistant, Police Sub-Inspector and Second Division Assistant were vacant, as the Group ‘C‘ examinations were not conducted for three years.
All the government posts, apart from that of the PSI, are held by the State government through the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). The KPSC says the recruitment would begin after the State government issues notifications.
Prashant, a civil service aspirant, said the Karnataka government gazette dated September 10, 2009, had instructed that the KAS examinations should be conducted every year. But since 2012, no examinations had taken place as fresh notifications were issued by the government to the KPSC.
“The KPSC chairman post has been vacant since May 2013. He is the only authority who can approve the government notification and direct the recruitment process,” he said.
The civil service aspirants said they had met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and submitted several memorandums to the government officials concerned, including to the Principal Secretary, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, but till date, no action had been taken to issue notifications or to recruit them for government posts.
