Mysore: Former external affairs minister S M Krishna said that India could not afford to hand over leadership of the nation to a party, which had no clarity on nuclear issues.

He was referring to the BJP manifesto, which has spoken of reconsidering the ‘No-First-Use’ policy of nuclear weapons, if elected to power. No-first-use policy of the Centre implies that India would not be the first to use atomic weapons in case of conflict with other nations.

BJP deciding to reconsider it, is the reason why we cannot hand over the leadership of the nation to it, as it has no clarity on these issues. This is where we differ,” he said.

On allegations that the foreign policy of UPA was weak, he said that it was due to a sound foreign policy that India’s voice was heard with respect all over the world.
