Huge haul of unaccounted cash in Bellary

Election officials, in a search operation, unearthed unaccounted cash of around Rs. 9 crore from the residence of a money lender in Bellary city in the wee hours of Saturday.

Based on credible information about flow of whopping sums being used during the ongoing elections, the poll officials, led by Assistant Commissioner Anirudh Shravan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Venkatesh, Additional SP C.K. Baba and Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax Guruprasad, armed with a search warrant, conducted search operations on three houses in Ganesh Colony belonging to Parashuram Puria, a money lender, popularly known as ‘Chor Babulal’.

The poll officials were stunned to see currency notes of various denominations stashed in three almirahs and trunks. The officials also found fixed deposit receipts of huge amount, land records and cheques/counterfoils.

Amlan Aditya Biswas, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, told presspersons on the spot that the money lender used to lend huge sums to political parties on interest.

Mr. Biswas said that the poll officials also got evidences that Chor Babulal was lending money to political parties. A cheque issued by BSR Congress to repay the loan taken in the previous election was among the documents found.

He said that a couple of biscuit-sized gold pieces were also found and one more locker was yet to be opened.
