BANGLORE, March 25: Geetha Shivarajkumar, JD(S) candidate from the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency, filed her nomination here on Monday.

She was accompanied by her husband and actor Shivarajkumar, JD(S) MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan and the party’s district president M. Srikanth.

She came to the office of the Returning Officer in a huge procession. In anticipation of the crowd, the police had diverted traffic near Shivappa Nayaka Circle and Gopi Circle. Her brother and Sorab MLA Madhu Bangarappa, along with MLAs M.J. Appaji and Sharada Poorya Naik and party leader Mahima Patel also participated in the procession.

Mr. Shivarajkumar was the main attraction of the procession. Large number of youth had gathered to greet him. Prior to filing the nomination, she performed puja at Kote Marikamba temple and Ganapathi temple in the city.

She also visited Sacred Heart Cathedral. Addressing presspersons after filing her nomination, she said that if elected, she would accord priority to upgrade the infrastructure and connectivity in Shimoga. “I am aware of the problems faced by the areca nut growers and bagair hukum farmers in Malnad region. I will try honestly to resolve these issues,” she said.

She said that, politics was new for her. “I have seen my father’s style of functioning. He used to consult all members of the family, including me, while taking important political decisions,” she said. She added that she would remain accessible to the common people after winning the elections.

She will begin electioneering from Tuesday, by meeting voters in villages in Shimoga and Bhadravati taluks. The JD(S) has emerged as a strong force in the district, by winning three of the seven Assembly constituencies, she said.

“Women are also voting in large numbers here, owing to which I will be benefited. I am confident of winning the election by a huge margin,” she said.
