The widening of Goods Shed Road, near the Bangalore City railway station, has been taken up by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). This is expected to ease the bottleneck at the junction and ease vehicular movement.
The BBMP had recently acquired 20 ft along 200 metres on the left side of the road belonging to the City Centaur Hotel. The hotel owner will be given TDR in exchange for the land.
According to a press release here on Friday, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike also brought down seven shops on the right side of the road as part of the widening.
The seven shops were demolished using earth movers in an operation that lasted for four hours. Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has given a compensation of Rs. 5.5 lakh each to the seven shop owners.
With this, there will be no bottleneck at the junction. Motorists coming from Basavanagudi, Chamarajpet, Mysore Road and N.R. Colony can take the free left to reach the Bangalore City railway station. Motorists can also easily take a right and proceed towards Okalipuram, Anandrao Circle and Shivananda Circle.
The road widening was overseen by Mayor B.S. Sathyanarayana, BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayana, chairperson of Standing Committee for Major Works B. Somashekar, Chamarajpete councillor B.V. Ganesh and Subhashnagar councillor T. Mallesh.
