Traffic policeman assaults motorist

Bangalore, December 30, 2013: Another instance of highhandedness by the police, in which a traffic police constable not only collected money but also assaulted a motorist when the latter asked for a receipt, has come to light in the city on Sunday. The motorist B. Girish Kumar lodged a complaint with senior officers, who assured to inquire into the incident.

According to the complaint lodged, Girish Kumar was returning home with his wife on a bike when he jumped a signal, as he followed four other vehicles. The traffic constable, Satyanaraana, flagged his vehicle and snatched the vehicle’s keys. Later, he demanded that Girish pay a fione of Rs. 500, arguing that the other four vehicles which shot past were driven by his friends.

When Girish insisted that he would pay only Rs. 100 as stipulated, the constable slapped him. Later, he was alleged to have snatched his mobile phone, as the motorist was trying to call a police patrol vehicle.
