Bangalore, December 17, 2013, DHNS: The State government has made a recommendation to the Governor to appoint Justice D Murugesan, former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, as the next chairperson of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).

The committee to select the SHRC chairperson met on Wednesday under the aegis of Chief Minister Siddarmaiah to discuss the appointment to the post, which has been left vacant for over a year-and-a-half, following the retirement of Justice S R Nayak. Two names, Justice D Murugesan and Justice R V Raveendran, were proposed. However, sources said that Justice Raveendran was not keen on the post owing to personal reasons, thus, leaving Justice Murugesan as the only choice. The name has now been dispatched to Governor H R Bhardwaj for his assent.
