Three killed, seven injured in serial accident

Bangalore, November 26:  Three youths were killed on the spot and seven persons, including two senior citizens, were critically injured when a car hit a median before barging into the opposite lane and rammed two more vehicles on Sumanahalli Outer Ring Road in Kamakshmipalya on Monday evening.

The police identified the dead as Bhavyashree (23) of Kengeri, Prasad (21) of Jalahalli and Naveen.

Bharath Kumar, who was driving, was injured.

The car was heading towards Laggere from Nagarabhavi. Eyewitnesses reportedly told the police that the driver of the speeding car hit the median and jumped on the opposite track ramming a multi-utility vehicle and a goods carrier before coming to a halt.

The five occupants of the car were identified as Bharath, Sambhashiva, Bhavyashree, Prasad and Naveen, all aged between 21 and 23. They had been to Mysore to attend a friend’s marriage and were returning home when the accident occurred. The injured were rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment, where Naveen died, the police said.

The driver of the goods carrier, Shivaraj, suffered fractures in his limbs. And he is in critical condition.

Four persons, including two senior citizens, who were in the multi-utility vehicle were injured. They were identified as Ramarao (80), Saraswathamma (70), Suresh K.R. and Vani. All of them were rushed to nearby hospital and later shifted to the M.S. Ramaiah Medical College Hospital.

The Kamakshipalya traffic police shifted the bodies to Victoria Hospital for the post-mortem examination.

All three vehicles involved in the accident were seized.

Soon after the accident took place, traffic on the busy outer ring road was disrupted for a few hours.

The police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against Bharath Kumar, and are waiting for him to recover for further questioning. “We are not sure whether the youngsters were drunk and are waiting for the medical reports. All the five occupants of the car were friends and had recently completed their studies and were looking for jobs,” a police official said.
