BANGALORE, November 5:  Given the security concerns that have arisen following the bomb blasts at the Patna rally of Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, the police are set to provide him security equivalent to that of the Prime Minister during the rally to be addressed by him in Bangalore on November 17, according to State BJP leaders.

BJP MLC Ashwathnarayana and party State media in-charge S. Prakash told presspersons here on Monday that the police confirmed this to a delegation of BJP leaders, led by the former Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok.

Inspection

The top-ranking police officers, including State DG & IGP Lalrokhuma Pachau and Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar, inspected the venue of the rally to review the security arrangements.

Mr. Prakash said that a central security team would visit the venue soon to review the security arrangements. A team of BJP volunteers would co-ordinate with the security forces in identifying the dignitaries and invitees on the rally day, he noted.

He said that the police had proposed the 100-acre Jakkur flying school ground as an alternative venue. But, the government had not favoured this. The party, which has rented about 50 acres of land at the Palace Ground here for the rally, is expecting about three lakh people.

He said that the police had asked the party to furnish details related to various aspects, including the number of vehicles ferrying party workers to the rally.

He said that the BJP had formed about 30 committees of its leaders to monitor preparations for the rally. The party has convened a meeting of all these committees on Tuesday.
