Siddaramaiah sets December deadline for CNR Rao Junction underpass

Bangalore, Sept 8, 2013: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has warned of stringent action against chief engineer of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and the contractor if the work on CNR Rao Junction underpass is not completed before December.

Infuriated by the monumental delay in completion of the project, the chief minister, during his inspection tour of the City on Saturday, admonished the contractor saying that he would be blacklisted from taking up any work in Karnataka if he failed to comply with the deadline.

Siddaramaiah, who inspected the newly laid white-topping road at Shivananda Circle and CID Junction told the Palike commissioner to construct more such roads at busy junctions as they are more durable and require minimum maintenance. He also asked the commissioner to repair the pothole-ridden roads at the earliest.

The chief minister said tenders have been invited for construction of a flyover at Shivananda Circle at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore. Another proposal for a flyover at Padmanabhanagar is in the pipeline, which would come up in one and a half years at an estimated cost of Rs 35 crore.

During his inspection of metro station and the trial run at Rajajinagar, Siddaramaiah expressed his displeasure over not providing parking place for the metro commuters. He directed the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola to open the Metro stretch from Malleshwaram to Peenya by the end of November.

Siddaramaiah also inspected the Nayandahalli flyover, Dore Kere and Agara Lake. He directed the BBMP officials to survey the City lakes and fence them immediately to prevent encroachment.

At Pantharapalya slum, residents complained to him about the drinking water problem. At Anepalya, people requested the chief minister to widen the bridge and direct the officials to carry out regular cleaning of the clogged stormwater drain.

Addressing a press conference after his tour, Siddaramaiah said there was no dearth of technical experts but what was lacking was quality and dedication in execution of development projects. “I would also carry out inspection in other cities and towns in the State and make sure that people are provided with basic amenities,” he said.

Mayor B S Satyanarayana, Deputy Mayor Indira and the BBMP Commissioner Lakshminarayana accompanied the chief minister during the City tour.
