Install CCTV cameras, cops direct Ganesha fest organizers

CCTV cameraBANGALORE: For the first time in their history, the city police have ordered organizers of Ganesha festival across the city to install CCTVs at their places of idol installation.

In an order, the city police asked the organizers not to install Ganesha idols in places of dispute and sensitive areas that may create law and order problems.

The organizers have been told to keep fire extinguishers ready for any eventuality at the places of idol installation.

Police commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said has those installing idols in public places will have to get prior permission from jurisdictional police. At least two responsible persons deputed by the organizers must watch the place 24 hours and both should take the responsibility for anything unseemly that might happen on the spot.

The order has also stated that no cooking of food will be allowed near the pandals where the idols are installed and there should be 24-hour lighting too. The organizations must give phone numbers of their secretaries and presidents to the nearest police station and also make arrangements to use the public address system and mikes only between 6 pm and 10 pm. People visiting the idols should be provided proper entry and exit, besides making arrangements for their easy movement within the area.

The organizers have been told that idol immersion processions must follow designated routes and no change in routes allotted will be allowed.
