C NarayanaswamyBangalore, Aug 13, 2013: Peeved over the tie-up between the JD(S) and the BJP, JD(S) senior leader and former MP C Narayanaswamy has tendered his resignation from the party membership.

A JD(S) member for the past 36 years, Narayanswamy said  he has resigned from the party and decided to join the Congress on August 15. “I believed in the philosophy of secularism and joined the party. But the recent turn of events, with the JD(S) joining forces with the BJP, has hurt me immensely. I have lost my faith in the party as it has mortgaged itself to the BJP. Along with me, former Speaker Krishna too would be joining the Congress in the presence of G Parameshwara and Siddaramaiah,” he said.

Narayanswamy said that he has already dispatched his resignation letter to the party’s national president H D Deve Gowda, and even met him personally to express his regret about the JD(S) joining hands with the BJP.

Foray into politics

When the panchayat system came into existence in the State, Narayanswamy was the first to become the president of Bangalore Rural zilla panchayat. He entered Lok Sabha in 1996 as MP from Bangalore North.

Aside from this, the JD(S) minority unit president, Abdul Hafeez Khan, has also resigned from the party to join the Congress.
