Congress to launch campaign in Mandya segment

MANDYA_CONGRESMandya: Congress bigwigs, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the former External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, are joining the campaign trail to woo voters in favour of Ramya (Divya Spandana), party candidate for the August 21 byelections from the Mandya Lok Sabha segment.

Congress sources told The Hindu here on Sunday that Mr. Siddaramaiah, Mr. Krishna, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G. Parameshwara will take part in the party campaign in the constituency from Tuesday.

Public Works Department Minister H.C. Mahadevapa, who was assigned to oversee the party’s campaign in Mandya on Saturday, visited the city on Sunday. Mr. Mahadevappa interacted with a few local Congress leaders and discussed with them about the campaigning activities.

Union Ministers M. Mallikarjun Kharge, Rehman Khan and M. Veerappa Moily may also campaign for Congress candidate in the district, a Congress leader from the district, who is close to Mr. Siddaramaiah, said.
Actors

Besides political leaders, actors too have agreed to campaign in favour of Ms. Ramya.

Housing Minister and Mandya district in-charge M.H. Ambareesh will bring the film actors to woo the voters, he said.

Meanwhile, the party leaders are preparing a strategy to tackle the Janata Dal (Secular) in the constituency, he said.

It would launch the campaign on Monday with Mr. Ambareesh and Ms. Ramya participating in it.
