DCs, SPs will be held responsible for communal riots: Siddaramaiah

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has warned Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police that they would be held responsible for any communal riots in their areas.

This was following an appeal by the All-India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijay Singh, in charge of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, who made a fervent plea to party workers and the State government at the general body meeting of the KPCC to take on the Sangh parivar in the State if it tries to instigate communal riots.

Mr. Singh said the Sangh parivar was using the social media to attack the Congress and asked the party cadre to train at least one lakh workers to use it to reply to its detractors.

Mr. Singh added that the Congress was against fundamentalism of both Hindus and Muslims.

Mr. Singh, at the same time, advised party workers not to be complacent and to work unitedly to win maximum seats in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Mr. Siddaramaiah said the Bharatiya Janata Party was trying to instigate communal forces in Congress-ruled States, but his government would not allow such a thing to happen. The BJP, he said, was also indulging in a hate-Congress campaign.

He had directed all his ministerial colleagues to hold review meetings and meet party workers at the DCCs. Mr. Siddaramaiah said he would visit the KPCC office once a month after presenting the budget.

Mr. Singh said better coordination between the government and the KPCC would strengthen the hands of the party to implement its policies and programmes/manifesto.
