BANGALORE, June 18;The intake of women for Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore’s (IIM-B) flagship postgraduate programme (PGP) has crossed last year’s mark with 108 women admitted this year. Last year, 100 women were admitted to the programme.
M. Jayadev, chairperson, Admissions and Financial Aid, IIM-B, said that while there was no concerted effort to bring in more female students, the general trend was that women were becoming more career oriented and that resulted in more women pursuing management courses.
Larger batch
The size of the 2013–15 IIM-B batch went up to 404, as compared to 377 last year.
As many as 368 students are from an engineering background, taking the percentage of engineers in the batch up to 91.09 from 88.84 last year. The percentage of engineers had dropped to 88.84 from 93.06 in 2010.
Students from commerce, science, arts and management backgrounds constitute only about nine per cent of the batch.
Reacting to the skewed percentage of engineers joining the IIMs, Prof. Jayadev said the talent pool itself was skewed and if more students pursued arts and sciences, then management schools too would have better diversity.
Fees
The 2013–15 batch will be the first to pay the hefty Rs. 17 lakh fee, revised from Rs 15 lakh.
