BANGALORE: Unidentified miscreants broke open an ATM machine and fled with Rs 19.86 lakh cash in Nagashettyhalli, near Sanjaynagar, off Bellary Road on late Saturday evening.

The ATM was located only a few metres from the main road and was looted before 7.30 pm.

The miscreants cut open a side of the Canara Bank ATM machine. By the time the Chennai office of the bank could get an alert, the miscreants had fled with the cash. Curiously, both ATM cameras were not working.

Senior police officers said more than two men could be behind the heist and gas cutters were used to break into the machine. The ATM kiosk had two doors, one facing main road and another facing a narrow street.

“From investigations, we suspect that one of the men had entered through the main door and the closed the shutters,” said a senior police officer.
