Bangaluru: Karnataka Home Minister KJ George said on Tuesday that police will take action against anyone who violates the law during the ‘Kiss of Love’ campaign proposed to be organised in the city against moral policing.
“Anyone can do anything that is permissible under law. If anyone violates the law, our police will take action,” George told reporters.
“It is left to police. It is left to Police Commissioner in Bengaluru and in other districts for Superintendents of Police. Home Minister cannot directly interfere, they (Police) will do their job,” he added.
A group of individuals calling themselves volunteers of the event planned to hold ‘Kiss of Love’ this week but postponed it citing threats the event has received and are yet to finalise the date.
Several organisations and individuals have expressed their strong opposition to the event. The first “Kiss of Love” event was held in Kochi on November 2 after activists from all over Kerala decided to protest against alleged moral policing by right-wing groups.
Similar events have been organised at Kolkata, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai. The campaign started after a coffee shop in north Kerala’s Kozhikode city was vandalised by a group of people who were protesting against “public display of affection” by some couples there.
