Bengaluru: Ms Rachita Taneja, who wants to organise ‘Kiss of Love’ campaign in the city to protest against moral policing, is determined to make the event a success, but the 23-year-old human rights activist is getting hate messages on her official page on social networking sites.
Soon after news broke that the ‘Kiss of Love’ campaign would be organised in Bengaluru, she was slapped with a hate message that read, “Yayy! Finally it’s coming to Namma Bengaluru! I’ll surely be there. I’ve waited long for it to come to my city! FYI, I’m bringing stones to throw at you guys! Not to participate!”
Ms Taneja said, “I had decided to hold the campaign on November 22, but after reading the hate messages on the social networking site, I dropped the idea to hold it on that day. It will probably be held on November 29, the last Saturday of the month.”
An undeterred Rachita is planning to meet City Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi on Tuesday. “I will ask Mr Reddi to provide additional security during the event. I will also run a disclaimer on the official page of ‘Kiss of Love’ event that there could be violence,” she said.
‘Kiss of Love’ is a campaign to urge people to protest against moral policing. It exhorts people to come out and kiss their loved ones in public. The movement began when activists in Kerala decided to protest against alleged moral policing by the right-wing groups by organising a mass kissing campaign on November 2. The campaign was launched on the social media after a coffee shop in Kozhikode was vandalised by a group of people who criticised the public display of affection by some couples there.
