Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K.J. George attended a massive property parade organised by the city police at Kantheerva Indoor Stadium on Tuesday.

Different police divisions had put up stalls in the stadium, displaying the recovered goods, including high-end cars, bikes and trucks laden with iron and copper.

Mr Siddaramaiah lauded the efforts of the police. He advised the citizens who were present to collect their property parade. “Everybody loves to flaunt their jewelry, but my advice is – if you avoid wearing and flaunting them, such crimes can be prevented.

It is better if one keeps jewelry and large amounts of cash in banks and not in their homes. There should not be any inordinate delay in handing over the stolen properties by the police to its rightful owners.”

Mr Siddaramaiah and Mr George felicitated the senior police officers by distributing cash awards of Rs 5.2 lakh and certificates of appreciation. Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Division, Labhu Ram and his team received Rs 3.5 lakh cash award for the highest number of recoveries amounting to more than Rs 13 crore.

Both the chief minister and the minister reiterated the importance of preventing crimes by increasing police patrolling to instill fear in the minds of potential offenders.

They also urged citizens to cooperate with the police by giving legitimate details, be it a crime or an accident and not shy away from becoming witnesses.

“A legitimate witness at a court can bring the perpetrators to book,” the CM said. The police were also asked to collect proper evidence relating to crimes and encourage prompt witnesses.

Referring to the crimes against schoolchildren, the minister said awareness should be created among the people.
