Four persons were injured in stone throwing at Labour Colony in Bidar on Sunday morning.
Members of two communities came to blows and threw stones at each other. The four who suffered injuries were admitted to hospital and are recovering.
“The situation is under control now,” C.H. Sudheer Kumar Reddy, Superintendent of Police, said.
Trouble began when a funeral procession met another procession organised by a local committee. Members of one community were carrying the body of Dasharath (24), who died of illness on Saturday night. They asked members of the other group to turn down the volume of the loudspeakers. Young members of the committee objected to this.
This led to members of the two groups abusing each other and stone throwing. A team of police officials, led by Mr. Reddy, arrived at the spot and resorted to lathi-charge.
The body remained on the road outside the government hostel for over an hour until family members took it away.
There was tension at district government hospital too. One of the persons who was being taken to hospital for treatment complained that some residents of the Labour Colony, who were at the hospital, threw stones at him. He told the police he had to hide in a shop near the hospital. A police-personnel van had to be deputed to control the situation.
