The Sakleshpur police have arrested a man on the charge of murdering a couple.

Umesh of Nadanahalli in Sakleshpur taluk was arrested on Friday on the charge of murdering Nagesh and his wife Kusuma. The couple were found dead in their house in Nadanahalli on Thursday morning.

According to the police, Nagesh had borrowed Rs. 5,000 from Umesh. Umesh had been to Nagesh’s place on Wednesday evening to recover the money. “There was an argument between the two over the money and Umesh hit Nagesh with a hatchet. He attacked Kusuma with the same weapon when she intervened in the quarrel,” said Ravi D. Channannavar, Superintendent of Police, on Saturday.

Fearing his arrest, Umesh went to Sakleshpur on Friday and consumed pesticide. Later, however, he went to the Sakleshpur Rural police station and told the police that he had murdered the couple. “We booked a case against him under the Section 309 of the IPC for attempting to commit suicide and later he was taken to hospital. His statement was recorded by the taluk magistrate in the hospital. He admitted to having murdered the couple. He is under treatment in police custody,” the officer said.
