The Kisan Cell of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday urged Home Minister K.J. George to withdraw cases registered against farmers during protests in several parts of the State.

Representatives of farmers met the Minister and submitted a petition seeking withdrawal of cases registered against farmers in police stations during protests seeking hike in prices for sugarcane.

Mr George told farmers that the Cabinet has to take a decision on withdrawal of cases. The State Cabinet had withdrawn cases registered against famers in the past.

Release of prisoners

The Home Minister said a list has been prepared to release 250 prisoners, who had shown good conduct, next month. The list has been submitted to the Supreme Court for its approval.

A few days ago, the State Cabinet has approved guidelines under CrPC for the release of the prisoners who have been convicted for life, completed 14 years of imprisonment and shown good conduct.

Mr George visited the KPCC office and heard grievances of the party workers.
