 ‘Vriksha Bandhana’ launched by Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya

Mangalore, August 11, 2014: A Vriksha Bandhana program was launched by the Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya in the city on August 11th, Monday, with the theme ‘Save and Grow Trees’. By tying a wire mesh around a tree at Balmatta in Mangalore; the campaign was started by the Mayor of Mangalore, Mr Mhabala Maarla.

On this eve, the trees were also tied with a poster stating that  ‘Trees and Plants are living Gods on this earth (Maragidagalu Ee Bhoomiya Jeevantha Devaru)’. Environmentalist, artist and Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya Convenor Dinesh Holla, several green activists and Mangalore City Corporation officials were present.

Since destruction of trees is still unchecked, the campaign aims at educating the society on the need to nurture trees.
