Mangalore : In a case of sheer medical negligence, which almost cost a woman her life, a doctor at a hospital in Mangalore left a pair of scissors in her stomach during hysterectomy- a procedure which involves surgical removal of uterus.
All the more shocking is the fact that the scissors remained in her stomach for four years.
On Saturday, June 28 the lady spoke to the media persons about her ordeal and held the doctors of Mangalore Nursing Home responsible for the blunder.
The lady, a resident of Madoor near Kotekar stated that four years ago (February 22, 2010) she was admitted to Mangalore Nursing Home for hysterectomy. After a successful operation she was discharged and after few days she started developing swelling in her joints. The doctors whom she consulted declared that swelling was common in patients who undergo the surgery. The lady endured the pain for four years and also went into depression.
Few days ago when no other treatment procedure was working she was referred to a skin specialist. The skin specialist in turn asked her to undergo scanning as a common procedure. To her utter shock the scanning report revealed the presence of scissors in her pelvic area.
The lady then came to the hospital and demanded explanation from the doctors who had conducted hysterectomy on her. The doctors who analyzed the report admitted negligence on their part.
The relatives of the lady then went to Kadri Police Station to file a complaint.
