Diamond racket: illegally sales of diamonds, four arrested

Puttur, May 23: The rural police of Puttur have successfully restricted an attempt by a gang of four to illegally transport and sell precious diamond stones.

The four accused were arrested by police red-handed on Wednesday May 21 night at Aryapu in Santyar, while they were taking the diamonds to another place by car. The police also recovered diamonds from them.

Ajnal Pasha (23) from Mysore’s K R Nagar, Shakoor alias Abdul Shakoor (24) from Puttur, Isubu (24) from Sarve, Puttur, and Azeez K E (43), a resident of Belya, Sullia are the arrested persons. The accised were produced in court on Thursday May 22 and sent to judicial custody.

Acting on the information that precious diamonds were being transported in a car, the rural police led by SI Jagadish Reddy began checking vehicles at Santyar. The police found the diamonds in a red Maruti 800 car that came from Sullia.

A case was registered by Sampya police against the four accused.
