Kollur; Jan 08: It was reported that in an incident, wherein stolen 10 pieces of silver in solid form worth Rs 3.5 lac has been recovered from Narayana Puranika, an employee of the temple.

Details of the incident:

It was on Jan 01; Thousands of devotees were descending into the temple from different parts of India and abroad for the celebration of the commencement of the New Year and were congregated inside the temple.

It is said that, in order to make sacrifice goat of one prominent and well established entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu, Narayana Puranika, an employee of the temple has hatched a conspiracy and guided the affluent devotee from Tamil Nadu to conduct ‘Sugar Thulabhara’.

Along with ‘Sugar Thulabhara’ devotee came forward to offer silver in solid form to Sree Mookambika Devi. The silver, which devotee has given, kept in the plate covered with flowers in the intention of not to be seen by anybody, was kept on the top of Sugar bales. At the time of balancing the weight during ‘Thulabhara’, silver pieces fell down accidentally.Puranika picked up those fallen silver pieces and kept in the same place, where it was earlier without anybody’s Knowledge. At the time of Thulabhara except donor and Puranika, nobody else was there around. As a part of Thulabhara Seva, after finishing the weight, devotees were sent out by him. Then, he sorted out sugar bales to temple’s treasure and shifted silver pieces to his home. But unfortunately, for Puranik’s bad luck, an employee of the temple was watching all these drama secretly.

On Jan 02, though Puranik didn’t come to the work, news about his admirable job, already reached to almost all the people, to whom it was supposed to reach. After learning the seriousness of the incident, temple’s organizing Samiti’s president Krishnaprasad Adyanthaya and working committee officer L.S.Maruti, in order to ascertain the facts, when they watched the happenings in CCVT footage, the truth came to light. On Jan 3rd,when Narayana Puranika was called and enquired with him, he brought 10 pieces of silver in solid form from his house and submitted in front of them.Muzarahi authorities immediately issued a notice to him for his bad conduct.

An employee who crossed the rule:

‘Thulabhara’seva can be offered by devotees either directly or through priests. If Seva is offered directly, whatever the items come along with Seva, will go to temple’s treasure. If Seva has come through priests, half of the seva materials will go to priests. But as far as Puranika’s case is concerned, he did not have the responsibility of giving free guidance for Thulabhara to devotees. The man, who amended the existing customs of the temple, wanted to deceive, put cap to temple, priests and devotees all at one time. Now devotees were talking in such a way that due to Devi’s divine power only, she shown his mistake and was trapped.

Emergency Meeting:

The organizing committee after learning the seriousness of the incident, wherein a senior employee of the temple is enjoying all the seva materials lavishly has called for  an emergency meeting and has decided to suspend from his duty immediately.

It was also decided to form an investigation team by the organizing committee to start an investigation by 30th of this month, it revealed.
