Mangalore: Tulu is a language that signifies harmony. The people of Tulunad have an ardent desire to see their language included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution. I have the confidence that the Government would concede to this demand, said District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai.
He was addressing a huge convention held at the Nehru Maidan in Mangalore on January 5, Sunday as part of the ‘Tulunaaduda Jaathre Bale….Tulu Theru Oipuga’ organised as part of the Vijaya Rajatha Sambrhama of the Sri Gurudevadutta Samasthanam of Sri Kshetra Odiyoor.
Rai further said “Our elders have helped the language prosper and have placed a chariot called Tulu language before us. It is now our duty to take it forward.”
Dr D Veerendra Heggade,Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala who presided over the function, urged the government to fulfill a longstanding demand of the people of Tulunad by including Tulu in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Sri Kshetra Odiyoor, said the government should also take serious cognizance of the harm caused to environment as well as Tulu culture in the recent past.
Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, Sri Mohandas Swamiji of Maanila, Mahabala Swamiji Kaniyoor, Shashikantha Mani Swamiji Balekodi, Mathanandamayi, Fisheries Minister Abhayachandra Jain. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, JR Lobo, Shakuntala Shetty, Legislators, Monappa Bhandari, MLC, Dr MN Rajendra Kumar, SCDCC Bank Chairman, Ajith Kumar Rai Malady, Buntara Mathru Sangha President and others were present on teh dais.
Earlier, the Tulunaduda Jaathre procession was flagged off near Jyothi Circle by senior RSS leader Kalladka Prabhaker Bhat. Several folk art troupes added glitter to the procession.
Three chariots which were drawn from three directions converged at Jyothi Circle and the procession then culminated at Nehru Maidan.
The meeting resolved to give Tulu its due recognition by including it in 8th Schedule of Constitution, to drop Netravathi diversion and Niddodi thermal power projects, to drop areca ban proposal, to reconstitute Tulu Academy and to rename the airport and Matysagandha train after Tulunad. A memorandum in this regard was submitted to the government through Minister Ramanatha Rai.
