Mangalore: Clash erupts at Central Market as tension prevails

Mangalore, Jan 4: A tension prevailed at Central Market, when a clash erupted between Central Market merchants and street vendors during the protest stage by Central Market merchants association on Jan 4, Saturday.

Addressing the protestors, Hameed Kandak, president of Central Market merchants’ association said that as per the Corporation Act the street vendors should not sell their products around 200 metres of Central Market, but they are doing it illegally, violating the rule and corporation has failed to take action against them.

Immediately, two street vendors started moving towards him shouting slogans against him and were stopped by the police. Later both parties began to shout slogans against each other; police intervened and had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the mob.
