Mangalore,Dec 24:The activists of district Hind Mazdoor Sabha(HMS) along with Kudremukh Shram Shakthi Sanghatan staged a substantial protest and a day long hunger strike in front of the DC’s office on Monday in view of thier demand that the state and central government provide mining areas in karnataka to KIOCL limited.
Addressing the protestors,Sureshchandra shetty,president of KSSS,said,”Due to the supreme court verdict which followed due to some factitious environmentalists KIOCL has lost its valuable mines at kudremukh in 2006.Following which none of the recent governments of karnataka have shown interest in alloting mines either.
He directly held the environmentalists responsible for the shutting down of the eco friendly company that was pumping iron ore using pipeline from kudremukh to mangalore without spilling a gram of ore.
Also,addressing the gathering,Venkataraya,legal advisor,said,”under the prevailing circumstances,as a responsible trade union company,we have decided to put a full stop to these contemptible occurrences in the interest of the company and nation.He further added”we wish to remonstrate and draw attention of the governments from state to the centreand keep them alive till we get iron ore mines in karnataka.”
Also, leading the protestors were Mohammed Rafiq,kuber Shetty,Ashok Shetty,Rajguru and Suresh Babu.
