Kundapur: Police arrests five people for attempting to rob Kerala pilgrims

Kundapur; Dec 17: Kollur police have arrested five people for plotting to rob Kerala pilgrims, who were on their way to Kollur on Dec 16, Monday morning near Vandse.

The arrested were identified as Mangalore Vamanjoor Muhammed Rizwan,25 years of age,Faizal aged 20,Muhammadali Shahnavaz,aged 21,Saifu alias Saifuddin,19 years of age and Harshit Shetty,aged 21.

They have been arrested, when their car met with an accident near Vandse. The police have recovered scythe, swift car, machets, rods and knife from them.

It was said that it was around 5.00 am in the morning on Monday, the police on night patrol had spotted  a car that had somersaulted near Vandse.Upon examination they not only found three people trapped inside the car and also found weapons in their possession. However two people inside the car managed to escape but police were able to arrest them later on the basis of information provided by the three.

On interrogation it was revealed that the five were hatching a conspiracy to rob the pilgrims visiting Kollur.

It is said that Shyam Kumar from Thiruvananthapura in Kerala state along with his friend’s family were travelling towards Kollur in their Santro car in the early morning hours on Monday at around 2.30 am. In this car, besides Kumar’s wife and child, his friend’s wife and child was also there.

It was also said that after crossing Udupi, Shyam noticed a swift car chasing them. On the state highway at Idoor, swift car tried to impede Shyam’s car. Sensing this, Shyam then drove faster and directly went to Kollur police station and narrated the story to police about the car which was following them and gave the number of the car. Then sensing the danger, the accused, who were chasing them in the swift car tried to make their way out.As a result of fast driving, the car went out of control and somersaulted at Chitteri near Vandse.

Kollur police have registered a case and investigation is in progress.
