Mangalore, Dec.6: Dakshina Kannada district central co operative bank organized felicitation ceremony to Gopal Kharvi of Udupi, who set a Gunnies record in swimming.
A swimmer Gopal Kharvi on Sunday December 1 set a new Guinness World Record by swimming a distance of 3 km with his hands and legs bound.
Kharvi started his swim from St Mary’s Island at 7.37 am with hands and legs bound in iron cuffs. He reached Malpe beach mainland at 10.20 am, covering a distance of 3.07 km and thus setting a new record.
Kharvi was felicitated by the president of Bank Dr. Rajendra Kumar at the programme held at office of the bank.
The bank gave him Rs. 50,000/- and Navodaya Charitable trust gave him Rs. 25,000 as an honorary prize.
After receiving the honor he said that the till now the governments do not supported me. To achieve this gunnies record I struggled a lot. I was practicing every night till 3am. To make this record Dharmasthala Dr. Heggade and some seers and some organizations supported me. The officers related to Gunnies record has come from London and nearly Rs. 12 lacs spent for this. Now by the money which is given by SCDCC Bank will help me to pay for my loans e added.
The vice president of the bank Vinay Kumar Surinje, director T.G. Ramraj Bhat, Vadiraj Shetty, Sadashiva Ullal, K.S. Devraj, V. Theertharam, P.L.D. Bank president Sudarshan Jain, N.B. Gopal Krishna Bhat was present.
