Bantwal, Sep 24: There is no need to destroy the entire town of Kalladka to make way for the Highway project. Instead let them build a bypass road,” said Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Udupi Pejawar Math.
Speaking to reporters on September 24, Tuesday morning after holding discussions with the Rashtriya Heddari Santrasthara Horata Samithi, the Swamiji said going in for a NH expansion at Kalladka would greatly affect the town as shops and residences will have to be displaced and hundreds would lose their livelihood and properties. Instead of this constructing a bypass road was the best solution to the problem he felt.
Assuring his support to the fight against the project, the Swamiji said that he would hold discussions with the central land ministry and the highway authority in this regard.
Samiti Honorary President Dr Prabhakar Bhat said that hundreds of houses, shops and buildings will be pulled down to make way for the road and briefed on the problems posed by the proposed road widening project.
Padmanabha Kottari, former MLA, Dr Kamala Prabhaker Bhat, Dinesh Shenoy, President of the Horata Samithi, Sunder Kulal, GP President, Kunhi Ahmed, Stanleyslaus D’Souza, Shivaji Bhat, Monappa Devasya, Ramesh Kalladka, Donald D’Souza, Tirumaleshwara Bhat, Suresh Kalladka, Shivaram Holla, KH Hammabba, Yatin Kumar and others were present.
