Customs officials seize 12 kilograms of Saffron in the Airport; one arrested

Mangalore, Aug 23: The customs officers seized 12 kilograms of saffron (Iranian made) from a passenger, who arrived from Dubai at Bajpe airport here on Thursday August 22.

The accused identified as Abdul Rasheed (29), hails from Mattanur, Kannur in Kerala and seized Saffron is estimated to be about Rs 12 lakh.

A source says that the Saffron was illegally brought by the passenger via Jet airways flight and it was found as hidden between the clothes in the carton, while officials were scanning.

It says that arrested was produced before a judge and seized Saffron made from Iran belongs to the ‘Begonia’ brand which is largely used to prepare bakery products and for infant feeding.
