Karkala/Kundapura;August 01 : Due to the impact of heavy whirlwinds in Ardi area,Belve village, near Haladi,Kundapur taluk,which occurred in the early morning hours at around 3.00 am on August 01,Thursday,schools,houses,rubber plants, electric poles along with many giant trees have been completely destroyed and within the parameter of 2-3 kilometer reportedly incurred an approximate loss of Rs 2-3 crores.
When people were in deep sleep in the early hours of morning, 5 minutes of gusty winds destroyed everything. By the time people were running helter, skelter in sleepy eyes to save themselves, it was all finised.It was reported that in Belve village panchayat surrounding areas like Ardi, Thonse, Kalbargi and Konjadi areas more than 90 houses have been completely ravaged due to the impact of cyclone.
Around 1000 rubber trees, more than 150 electric poles have been fallen and roads have been completely damaged and in the forest countless number of huge trees have been uprooted and fell on the road here and there. Due to forceful winds, all the cement sheets of Ardi A V Shetty memorial high school’s computer laboratory admeasuring 3200 square feet have been completely destroyed and flung in the air.
Besides 10 computers, books, electrical instruments and educational materials have been destroyed and with that institution is incurring a loss of around Rs 10 lac due to damages as reported by the principal of the school.
2 acres of rubber plants belonging to Smt Deepika Shetty, President of Kundapura taluk has been destroyed. To the utter dismay of the people, in spite of damaging houses either partly, portion or completely, no cases of danger to the lives of the people has been reported. This is nothing but a miracle, says people.
One must wonder after the watching the scene of the uprooted trees near the houses, what might have been the impact of cyclone?
As a result of uprooted huge trees on the road in Ardi area in the morning, Kundapur and Hebri remained closed in the morning.Therefter MESCOM,forest department staff in co-operation with public and locals have cleared the way by 10.00 am.
It might take more than one month to recover from the trauma of cyclone and MESCOM official has said that more than Rs 25 lac loss has been estimated and might take more than one week for the complete repair, renovation of the situation.
Gayathri Nayak,Tahsildar has expressed her surpise after reviewing the aftermath of cyclone in Ardi area and said that this is a nothing but a big miracle because in spite of all the destructions, casualties and damages have been reported, no cases of casualties/danger to the lives of people has been reported.
