Mangalore, June 25: Addressing the meet, at Dc office on June 25, Tuesday Veerappa Moily, union minister for petroleum and natural gas said in his address that as announced in the union railway budget Kollur-Karkala-Uppinangady and Padubidri-Karkala-Moodbidri-Venur railway routes project work will be started soon.
Dr Moily directed district administration to hold a meeting at Dcs office involving state and central government departmental officials to discuss about the union government’s project related issues.
Addressing the press meet, he said in his speech that due to communication gap between railway authorities and government authorities all projects have been remained pending. With regard to land required for the projects, forest minister will hold meeting comprising of departments concerned at Bangalore and all the project works will be started shortly, he added.
Up-gradation of roads:
Conversion of Mangalore-Moodbidri-Karkala national highway into four lanes road, in this regard process has already been started. From Karkala onwards, it will remain as two lanes road only because of the national park on highway
Also discussed about conversion of Bangalore-Mysore-Madikeri-Mangalore and Mangalore-Belthangady,Charmady,Moodigere national highway into four lanes.In Shirady Ghat,to construct tunnels discussion is in progress in collaboration with Japan.He has already ordered to complete the four lane works of B C road-Suratkal as early as possible.
Chennai-Mangalore Highway:
It has also been discussed about Chennai-Bangalore-Mangalore green field highway. It will be implemented through national highway authorities, he added.
Preventive measures for SEZ problems:
Dr Moily informed that he along with Abhayachandra Jain, minister for youth welfare and fisheries A Moidheen Bava, MLA visited the place and examined. Organized a mini meeting involving local dwellers, farmers and their grievances have been heard. In view of diluting the problems, within ten days under the presidentship of district-in-charge, along with, SEZ authorities, district administration, local residents, farmers, a meeting will be held to decide about the steps to be taken to solve the problems faced by the people. From employment and development point of view SEZ projects are important, he said.Suratkal-kaikamba road progress work instruction has been given for the steps to be taken.
Airport Runway extension work:
In today’s meeting it was also discussed about the Extension of existing 2450 Metre runway into 3580 metre runway and for this 285 acres of land is needed. Instruction has been already given with secretaries to provide basic facilities at the airport.
He also said further that he will be going to Bagdad for two days on July 8, to discuss with Bagdad government about the supply of oil from Iraq.

Grant to Lady Goschen Hospital:
Dr Moily has handed over the cheque of Rs 1 crore, which was given by Bharat petroleum towards Lady Goshen hospital building construction to Keshava Shenoy,managing director of the hospital.
Three floors of MRPL sponsored Lady Goshen hospital’s new block will be completed by March 2014 and handed over to hospital authorities, he informed. Remaining work will be completed by December 2014,he added
