Mangaluru, July 10: The coastal area where there were no traces of rain witnessed heavy showers from Thursday, July 9th.
The Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts received heavy rainfall since Thursday. As a result, the rivers are swelling. Due to the rains calamities and accidents have taken place at some areas.
This is the first time in the season that it has rained heavily throughout the day. Mangalore Puttur, Sullia, and Belthangady taluks have received good rain fall. The rural areas of the coastal area have received rains from Wednesday night itself which gained momentum on Wednesday morning.
The rains have made the farmers happy. The lack of rains had affected the agricultural works.
So far in Dakshina Kannada 140.9mm of rains has been recorded till July. Last year 138.1mm of rains was recorded in this month. As per the information of the Metrological Department, this year from January to July 9th 1130.9 mm rains have been recorded while rains of 939mm was recorded last year.
Mangaluru: Temporary floods were witnessed in the areas in low level Mangaluru City and surrounding areas. Due improper drainage systems, the rain water was seen flowing on the streets which caused great inconvenience to the public’s. As the manholes overflowed in many areas of the city, the sewage water also mixed up with the rain water and began to flow on the streets.
The stream water at Ballalbhagh and Kottara areas in the city has entered into the houses situated close by.
The rain water also affected the traffic movement frequently in Rao and Rao circle, PVS, Navabharat, Balmatta, Ambedkar, Bunts hostel, Lalbhagh, KSRTC, Nanthur, and Pumpwell circle in the city.
Compound wall collapsed:
As a compound wall collapsed near Moodushedde, Lokaiah (62) and Arun Kumar (32) who were sitting outside the house were injured.
A tree fell on the road near St Agnes College near Bendoor which affected the traffic flow.
