CIL Environment Quiz 2013 Held

Mangalore: The knowledge about the largest nuclear disaster at Chernobyl did the trick for the students of Mt. Carmel School as they walked away as the winners of the CIL Environment Quiz 2013 organised by Centre for Integrated Learning in association with Lions Club Mangalore at Chinmaya School in the city to mark the World Environment Day on Wednesday (June 5).

Sharada Vidyalaya bagged the Runner-Up prize while St. Alousius came third among the six team that qualified for the final round. Ten top schools from the city participated in the contest. The other qualifying teams included St. Theresa, St. Aloysius (Urva) and Canara (CBSE). Loads of interesting facts came to fore as participants and the student audience enjoyed the quizzing session conducted by veteran Quiz Master Mahesh Nayak.

Distributing the prizes during the concluding session, senior journalist Dr. Ronal Anil Fernandes  exhorted the students to personally practice certain core values regarding environment protection instead of looking at others to show the way. He lamented that many give up midway looking at others while no sustained efforts are made by individuals to do their bit to save the world.

A novel project to inculcate interest and love towards environment among students, the Adopt-A-Tree project was launched on the occasion.

Lions Club Mangalore President, Dr. Arvind Rao Kedige presided over the function. Principal of Chinmaya School, Kavitha KR and Executive Director of Centre for Integrated Learning, Sachitha Nandagopal among others were present on the occasion.
