Konkani Sahitya Academy awards will be conferred to nine persons.

Mangaluru, January 10: Konkani Sahitya academy, has announced in a press release on Friday, January 9th, that nine members will be conferred honorary awards, book awards, and youth awards for the year 2014.

The awardees list is as follows.

Honorary awardees – 2014 are,

  1. Padma Shenoy (literature),
  2. Gajanana Mahale (folklore),
  3. Koni Sheshagiri Nayak (art),

Book awards-2014 will be conferred to

  1. Naveen Kurmbil (collection of short stories),
  2. Nageshkumar G Rao (poems),
  3. G V Carlo (translation).

Youth awards-2014 will be presented to

  1. Ashwin M Prabhu (music),
  2. Prajwal M Nayak (Yoga),
  3. Arun Nayak (artiste),

Padma Shenoy: She has written a Konkani novel titled ‘Vaishakha Phullo’. She has presided over several Konkani poetry recitals. She was awarded district Rajyotsava award. She has been awarded Academy award for the year 2014 for her achievements in Konkani literature.

Gajanana Mahale: He has involved himself in drama, dance and music. He has acted in hundreds of dramas. He has also acted in Chamatkara and Singarevva films. He has been awarded Academy Janapada award for 2014 considering his contribution to Janapada art.

Koni Sheshagiri Nayak: Being a creator and director of dramas, he has created Satya Harischandra, Satyavan Savithri, Lagna Patrike, ‘Sera Savva Ser’ etc in Konkani. He has worked in Konkani and Kannada dramas for the last forty years. He has conducted several workshops concerning dramas. The Academy Arts award for 2014 has been awarded to him considering his contribution to art.

Navin Kurmbil: Several of his small stories are published in Konkani newspapers. He has also written for Kannada newspapers. His small story has won cash prize and award in the competition held by Kanik newspaper. His story ‘Nanv Nathello Peto’ is published in Romi script. His book ‘Devacha Bhagevontano’ is selected for Academy book award for 2014.

Dr Nagesh Kumar G Rao: He has made a name for himself in Konkani literature. He has written ‘Valmikile Bhagya’ translated work. Being a doctor he has written several essays on teaching and medical research. His ‘Magani Krishna Thuka’, collection of poems has been awarded Academy book award for the year 2014.

J V Carlo: For his translation ‘Gandhichem Parzallik Fuddarponn’ (From the book on Gandhi in English authoured by former Ambassador of India, Pascal Alan Nazareth). J V Carlo was interested in literature since young age and involved specially in translation. He has published 3 translated novels and more than 50 small short stories in Konkani newspapers and Internet. His translation ‘Gandhichem Parzallik Fuddarponn’ from English is selected for Academy book award for 2014.

Ashwin M Prabhu: Being a blossoming talent in music, he has presented several music programmes. He has won several awards in TV programmes. The Academy youth award for 2014 is awarded to him considering his talent.

Prajwal M Nayak: He has been undergoing training in Yoga from fifth standard. He has won several medals in Yoga competitions. The Academy’s youth award is presented to him considering his talent in Yoga.

Arun Naik: He works in Konkani department of Dharwad Akashwani and presented several programmes. He has been working hard for the development of Konkani. The Academy Youth award is being presented to him considering his contribution to Konkani.
