Mangaluru, November 26: A major accident is reported to have occurred at Nanthoor Junction here during the early hours of the day on Wednesday, November 26th.
Two students died and 15 others were injured in the accident. The deceased are identified as Umanath (21), a student of Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT) Mangaluru, and Ganesh, Gurupura resident.
The bus Nishmitha Motors was plying from Naravi to Mangaluru and the lorry bearing registration number KL 46 G 4906, was moving from Malpe to Kerala. Both the Bus and the lorry toppled near Nanthur Junction.
It is said, negligence and over speed of the bus driver caused the accident. Two passengers were critically injured and were stuck under the bus. The locals lifted the bus and pulled out the 2 passengers struck under it. Although they were immediately rushed to the hospital, they succumbed to their injuries. All the 15 injured are taken to the A J Hospital and are being treated in the ICU.
After the accident, traffic came to stand still form KPT to Nanthoor junction. Kadri traffic police arrived at the spot.
A case is registered at Kadri Police station.
