New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday accused a senior leader of Delhi BJP of offering bribe to a party legislator to switch sides against the backdrop of government formation moves in the capital.
Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal claimed at a press conference here that AAP MLA from Sangam Vihar, Dinesh Mohania, was offered Rs 4 crore by Delhi BJP Vice President Sher Singh Dagar to quit the party.
He was talking to the media after playing a CD of a sting operation in which Dagar purportedly made the bribe offer.
Dagar totally denied the allegations and claimed that he was being framed. “If any charge is proved against me, I would quit politics in which I had been there for the last 45 years,” he said.
The former Chief Minister said the party will submit the “raw footage” of the “sting operation” to the Supreme Court on Tuesday and will also approach the Election Commission on BJP’s “misdeeds”.
“The BJP has been approaching our MLAs to make them switch sides by luring them with money and other offers. This time they offered AAP MLA Dinesh Mohania Rs 4 crore. They also told him that he could contest election on a BJP ticket and even if he loses, he will be given chairmanship of any government run board.
“If the BJP has the numbers then they should if they can form the government. Under any circumstances, we are not going to allow the BJP to form the government by using illegal means,” Kejriwal said.
Dagar told reporters that about one-and-a-half months ago, the AAP MLA had approached him and showed interest in joining BJP.
“I didn’t offer Rs 4 crore to AAP MLA. I am being implicated. They are trying to defame my image. I will consider taking legal action is this case…There is no truth in their allegations, which are totally baseless,” he said.
“For the last 44 years, I am in politics and have been raising public-related issues. During this period, my image has remained clean. If such an allegation is proved, I will resign from politics,” he added.
A BJP spokesperson strongly rejected the allegations and said the sting has “no value and it’s useless”. “Things are not clear from the video. It’s authenticity must be checked,” he said.
Mohania, who is seen in the video with Dagar, said that he had met the Delhi BJP vice-president at his residence in South Extension after getting an invite from him.
“The BJP people have been in touch with me for the past one month. I have recorded all the meetings. I met Dagar at his South extension residence,” Mohania said.
