Srinagar: Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said that violations along the Line of Control or LoC must stop and that in itself was a ‘Confidence Building Measure’. The minister is on a two-day visit to Srinagar.
“We are willing to hold talks with anyone who respects the constitution and India’s sovereignty,” he added responding to a query on the possibility of talks with separatists.
He also claimed that he was ‘quire optimistic’ about the situation in the state.
Accompanied by Army chief General Bikram Singh, Jaitley had arrived on his maiden visit since assuming charge as Defence Minister last month and met Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The meeting was also attended top officials of the Army and state police.
The focus of his visit was on the recent violations of the bilateral ceasefire agreement by the Pakistani Army on the Line of Control and on the international border in Jammu and Kashmir.
