hariAmong the hundreds of people who turned up at the Janata Durbar of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was Utsav Singh, son of Hari Singh who is undergoing life sentence for hijacking an Indian Airlines flight in March 1993. The youngster, accompanied with his sibling Neha and other family members, was at the Delhi Secretariat to meet the Chief Minister to get the lifer of his father commuted.

Describing his father to be a political activist, Mr. Singh said: “My father is not a criminal. He was not hijacking the plane. He just wanted to draw the attention of the authorities concerned to a false case of truck theft registered against him. Nobody wants to know the reason behind his act. We came here to meet Mr. Kejriwal, but failed to meet him,” said Mr. Singh.

He said he met former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit several times, but nothing happened. “I wrote even to Mr. Kejriwal over the issue with some hopes. Since I did not get any response, I wanted to meet him personally,” he said.

The family, which currently lives in Gurgaon, has started a campaign on social networking site Facebook page named myfatherharisingh. The Facebook page, which has over a 1,000 likes, contains pictures of Hari Singh with former IPS officers K.P.S. Gill and Kiran Bedi, apart from newspapers cuttings and letters written to Mr. Hari Singh by well-known author Khushwant Singh.
