New Delhi, December 13: The Aam Aadmi Party has again declared it would not form a government in Delhi as it did not have the majority. AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal is expected to meet Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Saturday to explain the stand.
Party leader Yogendra Yadav told the media on Friday the party does not have the numbers; it is against the “manipulative” politics of “deal-making” for government-formation.
The Congress wrote to the LG on Friday offering “unconditional support” to the AAP should it be willing to form a government. Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel said his party will provide “constructive cooperation” to an AAP government.
Professor Yadav said: “We’re going to meet the LG at 10:30 a.m. We’ll explain to him our position. We’ll tell him we don’t have a majority. Also, we’re not the largest party…. We’ll put before him all these views. We don’t favour manipulative politics.”
Mr. Jung invited Mr. Kejriwal to discuss the formation of a government after the BJP, the single largest party in last week’s election, informed him on Thursday it did not have the numbers.
Professor Yadav attributed the AAP’s impact for the fact that other parties were not staking claim to form the government. He said this marked a change from their earlier practice of seeking to form governments by hook or by crook. In the 70-member Assembly, a party needs at least 36 seats to form a government.
The AAP has categorically rejected suggestions that it form the government with the support of either the BJP or the Congress.
