Lucknow, November 9:  Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday said her party will go it alone in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“My party will not contest in alliance with party. It will contest on its own,” Ms. Mayawati told reporters here.

“Reports that our party can have an alliance with the Congress or the BJP are rumours. These are being spread as a part of a planned conspiracy to mislead our people and damage the BSP,” she alleged.

‘Let law take its course’

On being asked about the arrest of MP Dhananjay Singh along with his wife Jagriti Singh in connection with the murder of their maid Rakhi in Delhi, the former Chief Minister virtually ruled out any immediate action against him, saying the party would wait for the law to take its course.

“We will see what legal action is taken against him. When law takes a final decision, we will also take action,” she said.

The body of the maid, bearing burn marks and injuries was recovered from the MP’s residence at South Avenue in Delhi on November 4 after Dhananjay informed the police.

He and his wife will be in police custody till November 11.

‘Media is anti-Dalit’

Irked by the controversy over the allotment of bungalows to her party in Delhi, Ms. Mayawati hit out at the media for “wrongly” projecting it as a favour from the Centre, saying it reflected their anti-Dalit mentality.

“Earlier too, lands were provided for memorials and museums of other leaders, but newspapers and TV channels have not gone after them. This only proves their anti-Dalit mentality. The expenditure on the Bahujan Prerna Kendra is being met by our trust, whereas at other places it has been done at government cost. Yet, people call it flouting of rules,” she pointed out.
