JETHMALAAllahabad, September 18; A complaint has been lodged with the National Commission for Women against senior advocate Ram Jethmalani for his “extremely impertinent” and “improper” comments on the minor girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by godman Asaram Bapu.

Mr. Jethmalani, who is Asaram Bapu’s counsel in the sexual assault case of a minor girl, on Tuesday reportedly said that the girl “was afflicted with a chronic disease, which draws a woman to a man,” and that “this was subject to police investigation.”

In his complaint, Uttar Pradesh based IPS officer Amitabh Thakur notes that the statement was “insulting” and “derogatory” against the young girl, who was facing the worst trauma of her life.

Considering the social position of Mr. Jethmalani and the weight that his words command, the comments were against the dignity of womanhood, Mr. Thakur said.

While Mr. Jethmalani had the right to defend his clients with all his force and voracity, he had no right to make a baseless comment or allegation against a poor and helpless girl, who came to register an FIR against an “extremely powerful and influential” person, the complaint said.

No ethics, morality or societal code would give Mr. Jethmalani a right to make such unsubstantiated allegations, the complaint said.

The complaint prays NCW chairman Mamata Sharma to immediately enquire into the matter and initiate legal proceedings as per the inquiry report.
