LUCKNOW: Four men abducted a 17-year-old BA student who was on her way home from college and gang-raped her in Meerut on Monday.
After the girl raised an alarm, some villagers working in a nearby farm ran to her help, caught two of her attackers and handed them over to police. The two other attackers managed to escape.
At about 1 pm, the girl, a resident of Chindauri village, had been walking back home when a car stopped next to her near Rasna Ashram. Three men got off, dragged her into the vehicle and sped away. The girl told police the car was driven through dusty roads for 15 minutes before being stopped near a tube well right in the middle of a farm.
She raised an alarm and a labourer working in a nearby field even heard her, but the accused muffled her screams. Half an hour later the labourer and some other villagers heard her cries of help and ran towards the tube well.
The two accused who were caught identified themselves as Ashu and Golu from Pathauli and Bardam villages, respectively.
Police had identified the two absconders. It was also established that the tube well is owned by Golu’s family. A medical examination of the girl confirmed the rape.
