Visakhapatnam: A seven-year-old girl was raped allegedly by her uncle at Juttada under Pendurthi police station limits in the city on Friday. The girl, a Class-III student of a government school, was subjected to medical tests and later admitted to KG Hospital in the city. The incident came to light on Saturday when the girl’s relatives lodged a complaint against the accused M. Siva, who is the uncle of the victim and also neighbour on Friday night and the accused was arrested on Saturday morning.
Pendurthi inspector of police K. Lakshmana Murthy said that the 20-year-old Siva, was working at a petrol outlet in the city and on Friday morning lured the girl with ice-cream while she was playing and raped her at his home. At the time of the incident, parents of the victim and the accused were away from home. The incident came to light when the girl’s grandmother noticed a wound on her private parts on Friday afternoon and she alerted the girl’s parents, who questioned her.
The child revealed that she had been abused by her uncle Siva, she reportedly told her mother. Acting on a complaint filed by the victim’s parents, Pendurthi police registered a case against accused Siva under Section 376 of IPC under various sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) of 2012 and the police also arrested the accused Siva, who confessed the crime. The girl is a daughter of Siva’s sister and the parents of the girl approached police after the elders of the colony tried to suppress the incident.
