UP student arrested for allegedly uploading derogatory post on social media against Azam Khan

Rampur: Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday arrested a class 11 student for uploading ‘objectionable’ post against UP cabinet minister Azam Khan on a social networking site. Police picks up the boy from his residence after a complaint was filed by Azam Khan’s aide Fasahat Ali Khan. The boy was later sent to district jail by additional chief judicial magistrate.

Fashat Ali, Media Advisor to Azam Khan said, “The boy made controversial allegations, It is conspiracy to make Hindu and Muslim to fight with each other.”

The student has been booked under section 66-A of the Information Technology Act and sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc.), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 505 (public mischief) of the IPC.

Meanwhile, family members of the boy refuted police claims of using derogatory language and said that he had merely shared the post on Facebook and not uploaded it.

Rampur SP Sadhna Goswami said, “During questioning, he told us that he did not understand the real meaning of what he was posting.”
