IPL spot-fixing: Nine bookies arrested in Kolkata

The Kolkata Police on Wednesday arrested nine persons, including a known bookie Ajit Surekha, in connection with the IPL spot-fixing scandal.

All the arrested will be produced in a court on Thursday. Police claimed that eight mobile phones and two laptops with betting software besides Rs 3 lakh were recovered from the arrested.

A massive betting scandal was exposed after three cricketers of the Rajasthan Royals, including fast bowler Sreesanth, were arrested by the Delhi Police from Mumbai on May 16 for allegedly spot fixing in their team’s matches in the IPL.

A number of bookies were held from different parts of the country.

The first Bollywood link to the scam was exposed when actor Vindu Dara Singh was arrested for his alleged links with bookies. Four bookies were also arrested from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh and Rs 6 lakh was recovered from them.
